Former Governor Drops Bombshell: Reveals Bold Plan to Revolutionize Nigeria's Electricity Sector!

Kaduna Governor
Nasir El-Rufai

Nigeria's electricity sector has been a challenge for successive governments for over six decades. However, Nasir El-Rufai, a former Governor of Kaduna State, has proposed strict measures to improve the sector.

During a ministerial screening of nominees by the Senate, El-Rufai suggested a hardline stance against meter bypassing and cable theft. He emphasized that every household and business should have been metered by now, and estimated billing is not acceptable.

El-Rufai also acknowledged the progress made by some of the Distribution Companies (Discos) in the last few years, with the support of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the World Bank. However, he stressed that Nigeria must take a hard stance against those who steal electricity if the sector is to work effectively.

El-Rufai's proposal for stringent measures in the electricity sector is a step in the right direction. It will help to curb the issue of estimated billing and improve the overall performance of the sector. The Nigerian government should take note and implement these measures to ensure steady and reliable power supply for all Nigerians.
